Job Description

The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) is the nation's most effective environmental action organization. Position Summary:

NRDC seeks a Program Assistant to work in its Washington, D.C. office located at 1152 15th Street, NW, Suite 300.  The Program Assistant will provide administrative support in both the International and Nuclear programs. The successful candidate must have good communication and problem solving skills and be able to handle administrative tasks such as: management of budgets, contracts and processing expenses, formatting and proofreading documents, photocopying, coordinating and booking travel, scheduling meetings, coordinating meetings and events, and researching and preparing materials.

Required Skills

(Administrative – International & Nuclear)

  • Coordinates staff schedules and sets up meetings
  • Coordinates and books travel 
  • Processes and tracks invoices, contracts, grants, and budgets
  • Coordinates with finance, development, IT and other support departments to ensure smooth running of program work
  • Copies, scans and distributes documents
  • Proofreads and edits correspondence and various documents including fact sheets and fundraising reports and proposals
  • Researches and writes background information for projects

(International)

  • Assists with media and other communication outreach and maintains press database
  • Helps develop and run campaign actions and events
  • Provides research support for corporate, technical, legal and other projects
  • Maintains and updates Congressional and Administrative contact database
  • Helps educate policy makers
  • Focus in for Dirty Fuels/Tar Sands project area, but will help with other parts of the International program when needed (global, India, and Latin America)

(Nuclear)

  • Assists with coordinating media and other communications work with program staff
  • Takes notes at meetings and reports back to program
  • Maintains/organizes computer files of the Nuclear program’s work, including correspondences, reports and pertinent media articles
  • Maintains nuclear litigation files including Nuclear Regulatory Commission petitions
  • Blogs on Nuclear Program issues and topics
Required Experience
  • Bachelor’s required
  • Previous administrative experience a plus 
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills and be detail oriented
  • Must have a demonstrated interest in environmental issues
  • Must have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks
  • Must have the ability to work well under pressure
  • Must possess a high degree of proficiency with Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and Outlook, Microsoft Access a plus
