Position Summary:

NRDC seeks a Climate Legislative Director to work in the Climate Center at its Washington, D.C. office.  The Climate Legislative Director will serve as NRDC’s senior Congressional representative on climate legislation; manage the Climate Center’s legislative advocates; and strategically deploy NRDC’s senior climate policy experts. The Climate Legislative Director reports to the Climate Center Director and works closely with NRDC’s Director of Government Affairs and Legislative Director. The Climate Legislative Director will devise NRDC’s legislative strategy in coordination with other senior NRDC staff and will have primary responsibility for ensuring that this strategy is effectively implemented.

 

Essential Functions:

-          Devise NRDC’s climate legislative strategy in coordination with other senior NRDC staff.

-          Effectively represent NRDC’s positions on climate legislation to Congressional offices.

-          Manage NRDC climate legislative team.

-          Coordinate and strategically deploy NRDC’s climate policy experts.  

-          Serve as a senior NRDC spokesperson.

  

Skills and Knowledge Requirements:

  • At least 5 years experience on Capitol Hill, with additional advocacy experience preferred;
  • J.D. or other advanced degree preferred;
  • Global warming, energy, and/or environmental policy expertise;
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills;
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
