DC - Climate Intern

The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) is a non-profit national environmental advocacy organization with more than 1.3 million members and online activists. With offices in New York, Washington, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago and Beijing, our staff of over 400 lawyers, scientists, policy analysts and others works to protect the environment and public health through advocacy and education.

Position Summary

NRDC is looking for a full time intern from June through August 2012 to work in our Climate and Clean Air program based in our Washington, DC office. Our work focuses on reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and defending and updating air pollution and air toxics standards under the Clean Air Act. 

NRDC's Climate and Clean Air program is at the center of the current legal, legislative and policy debate over reducing greenhouse gases and air pollution. The intern will be an integral part of our team in our efforts to protect EPA’s authority under the Clean Air Act to set strong air and carbon pollution standards.  The intern’s work will include conducting research, helping to draft advocacy documents, attending and reporting on meetings, briefings and congressional hearings. There will also be the opportunity to get involved in our clean air act defense campaign.

Required Skills
  • The intern will participate in all aspects of the program’s work by assisting staff with policy and analytical research as well as legislative advocacy, campaigns, media and other public and stakeholder outreach activities.
  • Responsibilities will include researching information and preparing materials such as factsheets and blogs pertinent to our policy, legislative and campaign efforts.
  • The intern will also help distribute information to congressional staff, members and activists.
Required Experience
  • The intern should be an advanced undergraduate or graduate student in environmental policy or related scientific or economic program. Some background in climate science is a plus.
  • Ability to commit to working in our office three to five (preferable) days per week during the internship.
  • Must be highly organized, with good communications, analytical, and research skills.
