General responsibilities

The database assistant will be responsible for developing and maintaining the organisation’s in-house and on-line databases. He/she will provide strategic input for the development of the REC’s database system. The database assistant will work in close cooperation with the database administrator (on the development and maintenance of RECtivity, a database developed in-house); with the webmasters (on the provision of Internet services); and with the system administrator on other aspects of system maintenance.

Experience and skill level required

  • A minimum of 2 to 3 years’ experience in relational database software, FileMaker Pro, SQL
  • Experience with PHP, JavaScript, XML, HTML languages
  • Basic experience in Ajax/Java script and in the Linux/Apache environment is an asset
  • Working knowledge of spoken/written English
  • Knowledge of one or more of the languages of Central and Eastern European (CEE) is an asset
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to provide user support and to train users of computer databases and electronic communications tools
  • Organisational and project management skills

Education

A college or university degree in computer sciences demonstrating a profound knowledge of database design, user interface design and the common functional requirements of professional applications.

This position is based at the REC’s head office in Szentendre, Hungary (20 km north of the Hungarian capital, Budapest).
