Data and Survey Officer – Saving Scotland’s Red Squirrels

£18-20k pro rata (21 hours per week)

SWT HQ Edinburgh-based

An exciting new post for someone with a keen aptitude for handling large datasets to work on our prestigious Saving Scotland’s Red Squirrels project has arisen.  We need a data manager with an enthusiasm for wildlife surveying to support a team of volunteer surveyors to carry out the project’s annual spring surveys already set up across the project area, and to develop a scheme to expand the surveys across much ofScotland. The successful candidate will be responsible for collecting and collating project data from a wide variety of sources.

Applicants will hold a degree in in ecology, biology, geography, countryside management or related discipline. He/she will be experienced in carrying out standardised wildlife surveying, and with firm grasp of scientific method and report writing.

Experience of handling large and varied datasets, plus working with volunteers and the general public, private landowners, conservation agencies along with excellent organisational skills are essential.

Some working in remote locations in challenging environments required. A current driving licence is essential.

The positions are expected to start as soon as possible and run until the31 March 2014.
