Description

Do you have experience working with data sets in sustainability and global supply chains? If you are excited by working with data to provide answers to global environmental and social challenges and to communicate insights and learnings to global audiences in the private, and public sectors, please take a look at this role.

About Proforest

Proforest focuses on the production base and supply chains of agricultural and forestry commodities including soy, sugar, rubber, palm oil, cocoa, coconut, beef and timber. We have more than twenty years of practical experience in supporting companies, governments, communities and partners, to establish responsible production and sourcing practices in Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, Europe and North America.??

We support companies with direct action to tackle environmental and social risks throughout a supply chain. We also work with governments, companies, and collaborative?organisations, in order to address systemic issues beyond the supply chain, within a landscape or a sector. In all our work we bring expertise in environmental and social issues to deliver positive outcomes for the climate, nature and people.

Data at Proforest

The Data Analyst brings together our data with our technical work to deliver best outputs for clients and other key stakeholders.

Proforest is increasingly working with data across the organisation on a global scale, collecting, cleaning, managing and analysing/vizualizing large data sets from multiple sources. We collect or aggregate data for our clients to report back on supply chain performance (i.e. environmental and social risks, traceability and supply chain mapping, supplier performance and scorecards, deforestation performance). A growing number of companies are committing to report publicly on the implementation of their responsible sourcing commitments and their progress. We support companies on setting their sustainability targets and KPIs to measure their progress in delivering positive outcomes, identifying the relevant data sets to develop consolidated database and visuals (e.g. Power BI). In our grant-funded work we collect qualitative and quantitative data to demonstrate impact within long-term programmes.

Responsibilities

Client consultancy

  • In the context of client projects, be responsible for leading data workstreams including day to day planning, workstream team management, and delivery of outputs such as database, visualisation (e.g. PowerBi dashboards) and reports, in line with client expectations and budget. Collaborate with the project team and report to the project lead.
  • Translate client briefs into data requirements to work with the right set of data and produce the required analysis and visualisation.
  • Develop narratives and identify new trends through data analysis and visualisation to add value to projects, and support clients in reporting progress on the implementation of their sustainability commitments.
  • Be our technical expert on data management and visualisation and advise our clients on their approach to data analysis.
  • Oversee work on traceability, cleaning and managing of client mill and refinery lists, which is needed to keep our database up to date, ensuring data security and quality.
  • Ensure a consistent approach to data management and visualisations across our project portfolio, commodities, and offices.

Growing our Data Analytics workstream

  • In collaboration with the global lead, operationalise a data analytics and visualisation workstream that reviews, aligns and improves analytic processes and methodologies, both internally and externally.
  • Manage the demands for new data services, including third party platforms and in-house development work with regions, project teams and programmes to understand data requirements.
  • In collaboration with teams across Proforest, translate abstract concepts (such as “deforestation free volumes” or “social risk”) into concrete numbers and visualisations.

Team development and capacity building

  • Develop best practices and guidance for data management and visualisation, including training of internal teams as well as client, to improve their capacity in data analyses and visualisation, where required by particular projects.
  • Support the data and visualisation global community of practice, a knowledge sharing group for anyone working with data that comes together monthly.
  • Develop internal training and guidance for Proforesters to increase their capacity in data analyses and visualisation, including the use of Excel, Smartsheet and Power BI.
  • Provide ad hoc support to teams needing help on Excel and Power BI.

  • Experience working in a consultancy environment, taking briefs from and reporting back results to clients or other stakeholders
  • Ability to support change, including adapting new technology platforms or applications, working with our IT and Technical Operations teams.
