Major Duties

DNV is seeking a Data Analyst for the Turbine Engineering section in the downtown Seattle office. In this role you will monitor, collect, summarize, and archive meteorological data that are collected from instruments installed on clients’ meteorological towers or remote sensing devices. You will also support other sections in DNV by conducting various data analyses.

Responsibilities

• Monitor data transmission and perform data analysis on a regular schedule to support multiple wind turbine tests around the world.
• Validate data and prepare periodic summary data for use in reports for our clients, other members in our Section and other Sections in the company.
• Fulfill client data requests as needed
• Provide timely communications to clients and team members regarding problems with equipment, data, analysis results and for routine reporting
• Participate in software tool development, maintenance, and documentation; both on independent projects as well as collaboratively with others within our Section
• Interact professionally with clients as needed through email, phone and in person
• Share and continuously develop knowledge and best practices
• Help with other tasks as assigned
• Limited opportunities to build electro-mechanical test equipment under engineering guidance

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
• BA/BS required in computer science, math, statistics, or related field
• Data analysis experience and comfort with math & quantitative analysis required
• Experience with Matlab required
o Experience with other coding languages a strong plus (C++, Visual Basic, Python, Structured Text, etc.)
o Ability to learn new coding languages required
• Demonstrated ability to work with large quantities of data


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
• Proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite, preferably the 2010 version
• Ability to operate independently, multi-task, and prioritize tasks
• Self-motivated, quick learner with excellent attention to detail
• Able to work independently and in teams with diverse people – both clients and co-workers, domestically and internationally
• Flexibility and adaptability – as issues and tasks may change quickly, able to identify and learn from mistakes
• Interest in working with engineers to help build testing and data collection equipment is a plus
• Ability to build and maintain relationships


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Normal office environment with moderate noise levels, occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs., regular walking, sitting, bending, twisting, standing and reaching
• Ability to perform consistent work on PC
• Travel rarely needed (typically less than 5% of work time) for training, meetings and field sites which includes climbing stairs, looking up to view towers, traveling by car up to six hours and walking on uneven terrain.
