About us

If you’re part of the Environment Agency (EA), you’re part of the solution. Working with us means protecting and improving the environment and tackling issues of national importance. We’re based across England, and our responsibilities span industry regulation, flood defences, land contamination, water quality, fisheries and conservation.

Such broad scope of work calls for diverse, multi-skilled teams. Together, we’ll promote sustainable growth, tackle climate change and secure a better future for everyone.

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team and we are looking for motivated enthusiastic individuals who are passionate about the environment to work within our contact centre. Our full-time roles mean you will be working 37 hours per week across Monday – Friday on a fixed shift pattern, but we can offer part time positions working as little as 22 hours per week.

The Environment Agency is committed to creating a better place for people and wildlife and as a Customer Service Advisor within the Environment Agency’s National Customer Contact Centre you will be joining a friendly diverse team working together to protect and improve the environment.

You will engage with a wide range of customers taking inbound calls, but don’t worry if you lack experience in this area – it’s more important that you are able to provide an excellent customer experience.

You will be supported to be the best you can at your job, and fully supported to be yourself in the workplace. It's our people and culture that make us an inclusive place to work - a place where you can be yourself and let your skills shine.

Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents, or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and workplace adjustments will be available to support you with your incident role.

What do I need?

Ideally you will have worked in a customer service role before, but if this is your first role or a career change don’t worry as we provide all the training and support you’ll need. The most important thing we are looking for is a passion for providing great customer service and the resilience to succeed.

You’ll need to have:

  • Basic computer skills
  • Great communication skills
  • An ability to empathise and understand customer needs
  • Decision making and finding solutions to potential problems
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team

What’s in it for you?

You’ll benefit from a culture that embraces difference and includes everyone, where you’ll feel supported and trusted to do the right thing. We’ll invest in you and allow you to grow and shape your career.

What’s more, you’ll have access to our great benefits package including:

  • A competitive salary of £20,507
  • 25 days holiday + 8 bank holidays
  • Great career opportunities
  • Maternity, paternity, and adoption leave scheme
  • A range of flexible working options including the ability to spend some your time working from home, plus many more!

As an organisation we strive to reflect the communities we serve, to achieve this we welcome applications from all backgrounds regardless of disability, gender, race, sexual orientation, and religion. We offer part time roles starting from 22 hours per week but, we’ll need you to work full time during your induction training.
