Background:

Melton Borough Council is a Rural District Council in Leicestershire, in the Heart of the East Midlands. It has very good road and rail links to Nottingham, Leicester and Derby. It has in excess of 200 employees and delivers a range of public services you would expect from a public sector organisation of this size. We have currently reviewed the way we deliver Social and Economic services and introduced innovative and modern processes. This generates an exciting and vibrant workplace.

Objective:

The purpose of the project is to produce baseline information via the collection and collation of data and information that will feed into Neighbourhood Investment planning work and service delivery across the Borough. The data and information will be collected from a number of sources including internal departments, research and partner agencies. As the organisation believes understanding their customers is vital in delivering targeted and customer focused services, this information will inform and influence key policy and strategic decisions.

This project will give a graduate an extensive knowledge of Local Authority working practices and the ethics of partnership working. The research will result in a detailed parochial knowledge of the varied ways of collecting information and data. In addition it will result in knowledge of how a forward looking public sector organisation delivers services that make a difference to community it serves.

Employment Potential and Options Post Project Work

The post of Customer Insight Officer has been approved by the Council as a full time permanent post and I would expect the officer to be a potential recruit for a number of spheres of Local Authority work.

Outputs:

  1. To promote, facilitate and assist in the development and implementation of a customer oriented philosophy towards the provision of the Council’s services.
  2. Baseline documents and reports that collate, and make usable, data and knowledge about neighbourhoods and customers across Melton.
