The Custodial Manager supervises and manages all custodians, oversees and evaluates the custodial staff, monitors employee performance, controls inventory supplies, provides training, monitors scheduled activities and conducts inspections to ensure appropriate custodial services are carried out throughout the National Aquarium properties. The primary goal of this position is to ensure the delivery of WOW service to all visitors to the National Aquarium. 

The Custodial Manager reports to the Director of Visitor Services and serves as a member of the Aquarium Management Team. 

KEY REQUIREMENTS: 
• Majority of time is spent supervising and directing custodial staff, to include: 
o Developing daily/weekly/monthly project assignments for custodial staff to ensure buildings receive appropriate custodial services 
o Scheduling to ensure proper staffing for all shifts 
o Interviewing & hiring custodial staff as needed 
o Mentoring Assistant Custodial Manager, Custodial Supervisor(s) and Shift Leader(s) to ensure compliance with departmental policies and procedures, strong communication on their teams, and continual improvement of leadership skills 
• With Director of Visitor Services, inspect NA properties on a regular basis; check for cleanliness in offices, classrooms, restrooms, and hallways; assign additional cleaning as needed to ensure a clean, safe, sanitary learning and working environment for the visitors and staff 
• Manage custodial budget to ensure efficient and effective custodial services. 
• Continually monitor cleanliness before and after all activity 
• Work cooperatively with the Catered Events staff to ensure needs are met for all facility rentals, and proper staffing is provided for set up, maintenance, and clean up of all events 
• Manage and monitor supply inventory at various sites; compile requisitions for supplies by custodial staff to ensure adequate supplies are available for custodial staff; monitor and train the custodians on proper supply usage; responsible for the training, repair, maintenance, and usage of the maintenance equipment that the custodial team uses in their daily routines. 
• Supervise implementation and operation of WOW customer service programs to ensure quality custodial services are maintained. 
 
Required Skills/Experience:
• Two-year college or technical degree from an accredited institution, or equivalent work experience. 
• At least five years of increasingly responsible custodial or related experience, with at least two of those years in a supervisory role. 
• Good basic computer skills 
• Must be able to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing. 
• Able to give and follow written and oral instructions. 
• Excellent ability to multitask and work independently as needed 
• Must be able to regularly lift and carry up to 75 pounds. 
• Must have good hand-eye coordination. 
• Must be capable of operating and/or carrying some equipment for extended periods of time. 
• Must be able to work a flexible schedule. 
• Must be able to occasionally work from heights or in uncomfortable conditions
