Description

CEPF RIT Manager, Cambridge (UK)
CEPF RIT Programme Leader, Amman (Jordan)

BirdLife International is a world-wide network of non-governmental conservation organisations represented in over 115 countries, and with a combined public membership of over 2.5 million people. The BirdLife mission is to conserve birds, their habitats and global biodiversity, working with people towards sustainability in the use of natural resources. The Partnership is coordinated by the BirdLife International Secretariat which has its global headquarters in Cambridge (UK) and six regional offices, including the Middle East Regional Office in Amman (Jordan). The Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF) is a joint programme of l'Agence Française de Développement, Conservation International, the Global Environment Facility, the Government of Japan, the MacArthur Foundation and the World Bank. A fundamental goal is to ensure civil society is engaged in biodiversity conservation.

BirdLife International has been selected to act as the Regional Implementation Team (RIT) for CEPF in the Mediterranean Hotspot, and to reinforce the activities of the RIT through a complementary Nature Alliance. BirdLife will provide strategic leadership for the CEPF programme of funding in the Mediterranean, representing CEPF and building a broad constituency of civil society groups and donors working across institutional and political boundaries toward achieving shared conservation and sustainable development goals. The RIT will act as an extension service to assist civil society groups in designing, implementing, and replicating successful conservation activities. It will review all grant applications, manage external reviews with technical review groups, award small grants and decide jointly with the CEPF Secretariat on all other applications. Further, the RIT will lead the monitoring and evaluation of individual projects using standard tools, site visits, and meetings with grantees. The RIT will be a small international team actively engaging civil society and donors to catalyse large conservation impacts, and provides an exciting opportunity for motivated people.

We are looking to recruit a Manager and Programme Leader to take this project forward. These positions are on a full-time basis, and are funded until end December 2016.

The CEPF RIT Manager will be responsible for managing the Regional Implementation Team and delivering BirdLife's contractual obligations to CEPF. This position will be based in Cambridge and will have direct responsibility for programme administration and finance management. The ideal candidate will have:

* A University degree or equivalent experience
* Strong programme and project management skills
* Sound financial literacy, especially in areas of budgeting and reporting
* Proven track record of managing staff in an international context
* Experience of contract and grants management and monitoring
* Strong communication skills
* An interest in conservation issues, preferably with Mediterranean experience
* A willingness and ability to travel when required

A full job description can be found on the Birdlife website at http://www.birdlife.org/jobs/jobs/2012/Critical%20Ecosystem%20CEPF.html. Salary in the range of £30,000 - £35,000 (plus generous pension contribution).

The CEPF RIT Programme Leader will be responsible for the translation of the CEPF investment programme from vision to reality, and to coordinate the RIT team of programme officers (for the Middle East, Balkans, and North Africa) in the development and implementation of a coherent portfolio of CEPF-supported projects. This position will be based in Amman. The ideal candidate will have:

* University degree or equivalent in environmental conservation
* Knowledge and experience of working in the Mediterranean
* Experience of staff management, and working within a matrix management context
* Excellent communication and diplomacy skills
* Experience of programme and project development, implementation, and evaluation
