Hart District Council is looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our Countryside Services team as a Countryside Ranger, initially specialising in woodland management.

The Hart District area covers part of the Thames Basin Heaths SPA and the Forest of Eversley Heritage area, including various SSSI’s, commons, country parks and open spaces that encompass the assorted heaths, woodlands and wetland habitats around the District. The Service has three Green Flag Award sites.

The Countryside Ranger will be part of the Ranger team, with responsibility for managing a specified public open space and assisting other team members in implementing the management plans for the remaining sites across the district. In the first instance you will co-ordinate management of woodland sites and commons, whilst liaising with contractors and team members to ensure works are carried out in line with funding requirements. You will work with the Visitor Engagement team to run site events to promote public enjoyment of Hart’s countryside sites. Ideally, you will carry out tree inspections and recommend appropriate tree management practices.

This post will require good project management and communication skills, to be able to meet tight deadlines and be flexible and pragmatic. Experience of at least 12 months working in a similar outdoor conservation role is essential. Ideally you will hold a qualification in a Countryside Management discipline or other relevant subject, but we will consider a Further Education qualification with relevant work experience.

Due to the nature of the department structure, there may be further opportunity to move within the team to other site management roles in the future.

For further information on this exciting opportunity please email countryside@hart.gov.uk or visit https://saas.ngahr.com/capita5c/wrl/ to see the full person specification and apply.
