Hill Holt Wood is a nationally recognised, award-winning and well established Environmental Social Enterprise, working to prove the value of ancient woodland in the 21st Century. It currently employs 40 full and part time Rangers and is engaged in a wide range of activities which include the education of disadvantaged young people, conservation, extensive forestry operations, Eco Design and build and significant events and hire, including Weddings, Corporate entertaining and landmark birthday celebrations. It has enjoyed considerable success over the last 15 years and continues to build on its strong position focussing on sustainability, environmentalism, conservation and social awareness.

To become part of our Countryside Management team, we are looking for someone with the skills and experience to help us look after our local environment. Hill Holt Wood manages approximately 1000 acres of land, predominantly woodland but also small nature reserves, wet grassland sites and footpath networks.

The successful applicant will be responsible for working with the Head ranger to carry out the delivery of a new contract working in partnership with North Kesteven District Council. As part of this contract you will be expected to carry out countryside management on a number of nature reserves, work with and lead volunteers, carry out the maintenance of the stepping out network, audit the stepping out network, lead informative walks for the public, grass cutting, litter picking and chainsaw operations.

The successful applicant will also be responsible for helping to manage a range of other conservation sites not included in the contract with North Kesteven District Council. These sites include woodland, wet grassland, wetland, wild flower meadow and freshwater pond. It is essential that all works are carried out to a very high standard.

On occasions the successful applicant will be expected to work with groups of young people while carrying out the conservation works. As part of these works you will be expected to pass on your skills and knowledge to the young people to enhance their learning and understanding of the environmental work taking place and the reasons for it being carried out.

A strong knowledge of the countryside is essential.

Qualifications in chainsaw, strimmer and chipper operation are desirable.

Experience of working with and leading volunteer groups in a conservation setting is desirable.

An understanding of health and safety and safe guarding is essential.

Full driving licence is essential.


The successful applicant must have excellent organisational skills and must be able to work as part of our team.

The successful applicant must also be able to set their own targets and work on their own initiative.
