Job Description
BACKGROUND
Germany is one of the world’s strongest economies and, within the EU, one of the most severely regulated from an environmental standpoint. It is therefore a mature but still very strong market for environmental services. Typically German environmental consulting companies are small and scattered. This is an advantage for a large group like AECOM in terms of appeal to multinational industrial clients.
STRATEGY
The short-term strategy is to second one person from AECOM Environment into a large city in Germany, working with the support from Environment staff in other geographies to develop business and deliver services. The longer-term strategy (after 1 year) is to form a core group of about 20 local professionals eventually reaching a self-sustaining level of delivery in all of the BL’s practice areas and especially in soil & groundwater and risk management services.
SCHEDULE
The assignment is expected to start before the end of Calendar 2009, for a duration of 4 years.
PROFILE
Country Manager, reporting to the AECOM Environment Europe Managing Director
The ideal candidate should hold a university degree in engineering, geology or environmental sciences with a minimum working experience of 10 years, at least 50% of which with AECOM. He/She will have a good track record of both business development and project management/delivery with multinational clients in soil & groundwater remediation projects for multinational clients in the manufacturing, energy and oil & gas sectors. He/She will have a comprehensive knowledge of competition and AECOM Environment’s technical resources throughout Europe and worldwide, with a strong personal network of trusted go-to people. He/She will be able to draw up and manage business plans with projected sales, profit & loss, and deal with all personnel related matters (recruitment, negotiation, day-by-day management, etc.). Knowledge of the German language is helpful but not necessary.
