Country Manager - Italy

Introduction

MSC operates a global fisheries certification and ecolabelling programme. We celebrate, promote and add value to sustainable fisheries and through the leadership of our partners, create market incentives to encourage other fisheries to improve the way they fish the oceans. Over 300 fisheries around the world, landing 12% of the annual global harvest, are now engaged at some stage of the MSC’s independent assessment process. MSC certified and labelled seafood products are now available in over 100 countries.

Information on the role

The Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) works to safeguard the world’s seafood supply by promoting the best environmental choice, and is recognised internationally as a ground-breaking and credible solution to the serious environmental problem of overfishing.

The MSC acknowledges the need for a local approach in delivery of its strategic objectives, and the Country Manager Italy (CMI) will lead on delivering MSC’s overarching aims and objectives in Italy.

The post will be responsible for outreach to the fishery, supply chain and market sector in Italy, promoting the MSC brand and increasing the support for the programme across a broad range of interest groups including; fisheries and supply chain stakeholders, government representatives, retailers and foodservice companies and partners in the NGO community.

The ideal candidate will have a post-graduate degree in a relevant subject; demonstrated knowledge of fisheries and resource sustainability issues; fluent in written and spoken Italian and English; a good working knowledge of sustainable development; experience working with stakeholders and other external parties; and demonstrated experience in management of staff and budgets at an appropriate level.

Location: Initially London, UK after 6 months Rome ( TBC) - Italy

Salary: Commensurate with experience
