The Cost Estimator will be responsible for all activities related to estimating construction costs of SunPower Systems’ photovoltaic projects of the UPPI (Utilities and Power Plants, International) business unit. We are seeking an experienced Estimator with a minimum of five to seven years experience in negotiated & competitive estimating for construction projects of large-scale. Candidate must have a strong knowledge of Low and Medium Voltage electrical distribution systems as well as familiarity with Overhead Transmission and Distribution. We seek a self starter that is detail oriented, displays good interpersonal skills and enjoys the challenges of the modern day construction industry.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
• Support the Proposals team during Proposal preparation/bidding response by reviewing bid documents and RFPs, establish WBS (Work Breakdown Structure) to reflect manner in which the work will be performed & use the company’s cost estimating model to estimate project costs based on preliminary project information and draft engineering design packages.
• Validate estimates through risk reviews, management reviews, and past performance.
• Prepare quantity take-offs and pricing, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontract costs
• Prepare subcontract bid packages, solicit subcontract bids, and review and evaluate bids.
• Obtains and analyzes bids on projects from subcontractors and material vendors.
• Assists in mentoring of new Estimators
• Keeps abreast of current changes and trends in construction codes
• Provides other services related to position including but not limited to: change order pricing; attending pre-bid conferences; site visits; building inventories; and bid delivery
• Maintains up-to-date capabilities on estimating computer software and programs
• Support company-wide Cost Reduction initiatives and participate in the Entitlement budget process as needed.
• Ensure that project costs are properly categorized and that a feedback loop mechanism is in place to compare and adjust estimating costs vs. actual project costs (i.e. production rates, cost of materials, etc).
• Maintain and improve the company’s estimating models and databases to create projects cost estimates and schedules of prices for customers.
• Cooperate with SunPower UPP Americas estimating team in order to ensure uniformity of estimating tools and methods. Challenge existing tools and propose innovative ideas, tools and methods in a business case fashion in order to match the business unit requirements.


Education and Experience

• BS degree in Engineering or Construction Management (or related field)
• Minimum of 5 - 7 years of construction estimating experience (solar is preferred but is not essential)
• Experience with Procurement of electrical equipment and services and maintaining vendors and subcontractors relationships
• Hands on electrical or general construction field experience is strongly preferred
• General knowledge of construction work and sequencing
• Must have a clear understanding of, and ability to work with, engineering drawings and specifications , in particular Electrical Single line diagrams
• Ability to read/analyze blueprints, prepare accurate quantity take-offs on projects 
• Applicants must display strong computer skills and be proficient with Microsoft office programs 
• Ability to estimate multiple multi-million dollar projects simultaneously 
• Ability to work under pressure and to meet deadlines
• Ability to travel up to 25% of his/her time
• Candidates must be legally entitled to work and reside in Spain
