ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The Proposal (or Grant Writer) is responsible for writing and designing grant proposals for the Philanthropy Team of Kentucky.  This position must possess superior skills in writing, editing, proof-reading and design. It is expected that this candidate has good prose and has superb verbal communication skills that can be translated on paper.

The successful candidate will work closely with TNC program staff and fundraisers to identify fundable priority work and federal, state, corporate and foundation funding opportunities.  S/he will monitor activities of federal, state, corporate and foundation funded programs to ensure compliance with donor’s requests and produce or coordinate the production of required reports.  Must track and report on federal, state, corporate and foundation sponsored programs.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Marketing or related field and a minimum of
    2 years related experience or an equivalent combination.
  • Fundraising experience required.
  • Experience writing federal, state, corporate and foundation grants.
  • Experience creating and designing fundraising proposals for major gift individuals, corporations and foundations.
  • Experience in translating science-based information into language that will appeal to all levels of donors.
  • Experience in interviewing, researching, and compiling information from many sources.
  • Experience in managing and tracking multiple prospects and donors and directing multiple complex proposals.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 2 years related experience or equivalent combination.  
  • Experience in grant writing, researching, and editing.
  • Attention to details big and small.
  • Knowledge of current trends in the specific field.
  • Good verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and proofreading skills.
  • Ability to set priorities, organize and manage diverse activities.  
  • Meet deadlines.
  • Experience in interviewing and compiling information from many sources.
  • Experience in MS Office, Word, and Excel.  Ability to use advanced computer functions including navigating the Internet.  Ability to manipulate, analyze and interpret data.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Acrobat, Photoshop and other computer design programs.
  • Experience designing aesthetic proposals, fundraising fact sheets and other miscellaneous materials to successfully raise funds and convey the importance of both our mission and priority Conservancy projects.
  • Experience executing a successful annual appeal campaign.
