Marine Transect and the East African Marine Transect expedition are now in the data analysis phase have 4-5 internship positions availible.These positions would be suitable for recent high school graduates, undergraduates or graduates looking to make a leep ahead in their marine biology career. Here is more about the project. For 4 months EAMT will dive and film different points spanning nearly the entire length of the East African coral reef system using stereo-imaging. EAMT will gather large-scale quantitative data on diversity, abundance and fish body size from South Africa to Somalia. The data collected will be used in a wide range from education purposes, high schools, universities, through to NGO, and governments and MPA managers. The users are essentially unlimited. The value is in the exposure that is across platforms, from scientific to social media and all in between. Value is in the data that can be used by many different people. We require interns to man our analysis stations and analyse the video footage to allow us to present the data to an international audience in East Africa and to place the data on our online portole where we are givieng the data away under open source conditions. As interns you will gain valuable skills in fish identification, scientific field methods, statistical analyses, and be exposed to some of the most cutting edge coral reef research currently being conducted today. REQUIREMENTS Ideal interns will be seeking a career in Marine Biology or one of its many offshoots. Be passionate about the seas, coral reefs and conservation and be willing to learn unique skills and contribute to a major coral reef research project, the like of which has never been attempted before. Applications must live, or be prepared to temorarily move to Boulder, CO and commit to 4 weeks minimum. It is predicted that this phase will last 4-8 weeks. Interns will work for around 8 hours per day. Mon-Fri. This will be great step in the right direction for a career in marine science.
