Description

The Climate Action Network (CAN) is a worldwide network of over 900 Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) in more than 100 countries, working to promote government and individual action to limit human-induced climate change to ecologically sustainable levels.

CAN members work to achieve this goal through information exchange and the coordinated development of NGO strategy on international, regional, and national climate issues. CAN has regional network hubs that coordinate these efforts around the world.

The COP 21 Logistics Intern will assist in the organization’s operational and logistical activities in the lead-up to and during COP 21 in Paris. This includes liaising with vendors, researching venues for CAN activities, developing a comprehensive logistics guide, and assisting the Operations Department with supporting the Secretariat. The position will be for a duration of five months working 5-10 hours per week June – November and 40 hours per week 25 November – 14 December.

Responsibilities: 

  • Researching venues and vendors for CAN activities during COP 21 in Paris;
  • Ensuring venues and vendors meet CAN’s needs and are in-line with any requirements and budgetary restrictions;
  • Liaising with vendors to verify and follow through with logistical needs leading up to and continuing throughout COP 21;
  • Assisting the Operations Department in supporting the Secretariat in their daily activities during COP 21;
  • Researching and writing comprehensive logistics guides for CAN members and staff for COP 21 and Paris;
  • Ensuring logistical information is developed and disseminated to staff and Network members well in advance of the event;
  • Following-up with enquiries or issues as they arise;
  • Assisting with other tasks as needed. 

Requirements:

  • Based in Paris, France, with strong knowledge of the city and its amenities;
  • Completed or in the process of completing a university degree or diploma, in a related field;
  • Passionate about climate change and social justice issues;
  • Ability to effectively communicate in written and spoken English and French;
  • Experience working with NGOs is preferred;
  • Strong organizational and time management skills;
  • Ability to work independently in a remote office environment;
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure;
  • Strong interpersonal skills;
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of: Microsoft Office, Dropbox, Drupal CMS, Skype, and social media platforms;
  • Personal computer and reliable Internet access.
