Description

The Development Coordinator will join a small team in representing CI’s Asia-Pacific Field Division in the US. The Field Division includes offices in Singapore, China, Cambodia, Philippines, Indonesia, Fiji, New Caledonia, Samoa, Papua New Guinea, and work in the greater Pacific Islands region and Australia. Its distance and time differences from CI’s Arlington headquarters make effective coordination and communication crucial to the delivery of our mission.

The Coordinator will report to the Regional Development Officer and work closely with the Development Director, based in San Francisco, and the Asia-Pacific Senior Director, as well as staff in Asia-Pacific country programs and other CI divisions. They will play an essential role in proposal development and donor stewardship, primarily via writing and editing proposals and reports, and in promotion of CI’s work in the Asia-Pacific region via development of communication materials, and will be the key contact for A-P administrative needs in the Arlington office. The Coordinator will be expected to learn about CI’s initiatives in the region and globally, as well as the countries and cultures with which we work, and to display cultural sensitivity and professional dedication to CI’s mission.

This position is an excellent entry point to international conservation work and a great way to learn the ropes of a large international NGO, and fundraising and donor management principles.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Fundraising (60% of time): Assist with writing and editing project concepts, proposals, and reports; coordinate proposal development, routing, and registration process. Research prospective donors.
  • Development of communication tools (20% of time): Work with field and HQ offices to create communication activities to promote the field division and its programs, including support for international symposia, and creating program fact sheets, web and electronic resource content, and division-wide newsletter content.
  • Divisional & Program Administrative Support (20% of time): Provide assistance with visas, hotel reservations, HQ invoice payments, general support to visitors, assisting with meeting scheduling and agendas, maintaining electronic and paper file system, and other duties as assigned.

 

Working Conditions:

  • This position is located in CI-Headquarters in Arlington, VA
  • The coordinator may be expected to travel to CI field program locations from time to time (1-2 trips/year). The majority of work will be conducted in an office environment, but will require occasional evening hours (either inside or outside the office) for communication with Asia-Pacific-based colleagues.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • 2-4 years of related work experience
  • Excellent command of English with good writing skills
  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite
  • Proficiency in desktop publishing and design software
  • Attention to detail and ability to work under time constraints

 

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree in natural resouce management, international develoment, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of in-region language, e.g. Bahasa Indonesia, Mandarin, French, Tagalog
  • Experience with fundraising and donor management
  • International work/education experience
