Description

SANBI is looking for a highly motivated, well organized and efficient individual to manage contracts to chemically treat or physically clear emerging invasive alien species. The post requires an administrator with an understanding of biodiversity and invasive alien species, who can co-ordinate information gathering, development of control plans, co-ordination of contracts to clear emerging invasive species and carry out scientific assessments the effectiveness of different control strategies.

Appointment requires the candidate to be in possession of at least a B.Sc in a relevant aspect of biodiversity science.

The successful candidate must have:

  • 2 - 3 years experience in project management
  • A qualification as a Pest Control Officer (PCO)
  • Relevant Health and Safety qualifications (COIDA) as will be dealing with herbicides)
  • Excellent knowledge of standards for Personal Protective Equipment and how to enforce these
  • A good command of spoken and written English (competency in any other official languages is an advantage)
  • The aptitude or skills required for project management
  • A valid Code B driver’s license (with one year’s driving experience)

Responsibilities include:

  • Understanding management requirements for a range of emerging invasive alien species
  • Development of management plans for particular species
  • Preparation of contracts to ensure that contractors implement these management plans as cost effectively as possible
  • Management of contracts from advertising, implementation, monitoring, to completion and reporting
  • Work closely with regional co-ordination team to identify key priority species
  • Development and management of landowner agreements
  • Produce reports as required
  • Assist with development of norms and standards for the implementation of Rapid Response activities within the Programme
  • Assist with development and implementation of monitoring and evaluation criteria for Rapid Response activities

SANBI offers an all inclusive annual salary of R 283 565.34
