Job description:
The Wetlands International Controller reports to the COO and manages a staff of one Finance Officer and one Financial Assistant. The finance controller (FC) is responsible for the operation of all financial processes at the headquarters and the production of all financial and management reporting for the Wetlands International Foundation and Association. The FC is also responsible for supporting the development of the finance function and systems in the network of offices worldwide, and the collection and consolidation of budget and actual financial data covering worldwide operations.

Full-time postion: 36 hours per week

TERMS of REFERENCE
 


Working relationships:
INSIDE Wetlands International:
COO, CEO, Finance Officers and Heads of Office from global network, headquarters staff – especially Project Managers 
 

OUTSIDE Wetlands International:
Professional advisors, service providers, consultants, contractors.

Main Duties
Financial Controlling:
• Manage all day to day headquarters finance processes and reporting including the project administration;  
• Provide strategic planning and analysis support to COO and CEO on major projects and collaborations;
• Function as the senior financial focal and advisory point on all major project financial matters during the planning, operational, and reporting phases;
• Manage the production of the quarterly reporting package and provide analysis;
• Develop and drive the global budget process, directly leading the HQ process and  providing infrastructure support and guidance to the worldwide offices;
• Produce the Foundation and Association annual accounts and liaise with the auditors;
• Manage the cash flow forecasting process and develop the global Treasury processes;
• Manage the tax architecture for the headquarters;
• Facilitate the usage of the EXACT financial accounting system for headquarters and worldwide offices through problem diagnosis, technical support and coaching:
• Manage the alignment of finance data with the Global Information System;

Profile
The successful candidate is an experienced and all round Financial Controller who is able to keep an overview in hectic surroundings. He or she is a strong personality with good communication skills and team consciousness, open minded and able to set the right priorities. The ideal candidate will have strong creative and problem-solving skills and an ability to engage and facilitate others in systems usage. He or she will have an understanding of NGO and/or corporate financial processes and systems and in particular complex project accounting. The candidate should also have an interest in international conservation and sustainable development.
 

Qualifications and Experience
• Completed HEAO-BE or SPD education, combined with at least 5 years of working experience
• Experience of Dutch financial and statutory reporting requirements, year closing and annual reporting.
• Excellent communication skills (written and oral) with fluent English 
• Working experience in the NGO or Corporate sector, including a substantial amount of project accounting on major, multi-site projects
• Working experience with EXACT and Excel or similar financial accounting and reporting systems, and other management information systems relevant to the sector

Preferred skills and experience
• Additional language skills – particularly French, Dutch, Russian
• Experience of working in an international multi-cultural community with multi-site organisations 
• Experience of accounting in developing countries
• An appreciation for the role of international non-governmental organisations in delivering sustainable development solutions.
