Hours: 40 hours per week

Responsible to: Overview Management Group

Lecturing - 0.5 Responsible to Head of School

Salary: £16,653 per annum

This position is subject to a 6 month probationary period and will be reviewed after 1 year.

The Wales Institute for Sustainable Education (WISE) will provide a state-of-the art environmental education centre, drawing on CAT’s long experience to educate a wide range of participants in the principles of sustainable development.

Tutor/lecturer (0.5)
Scope
To contribute to the academic, professional and administrative activities in the Graduate School of the Environment on the MSc Renewable Energy and the Built Environment.

Duties

  • To contribute to teaching, assessment, development and review for the MSc Renewable Energy and the Built Environment
  • In particular to act as a Seminar Tutor and Practical Studies Tutor for the MSc Renewable Energy and the Built Environment
  • To be present throughout the running of each teaching module at CAT and undertake academic and pastoral care of students in designated Seminar group
  • To give lectures as required and contribute to the general research life and activities of the Graduate School of the Environment
  • To undertake an agreed amount of Thesis supervision in consultation with the Thesis Co-ordinator
  • To undertake administrative and other duties as appropriate and in consultation with the Programme Leader
  • To work in a flexible manner to include evenings and weekends

Consultancy (0.5)
Scope
To assist in provision of consultancy services relating to renewable energy and energy efficiency, incorporating design and analysis, under the supervision of the senior engineering consultant.

Duties

  • To carry out research into renewable energy resources for specific sites
  • To compile information, analyse data and provide written analysis / charts / graphs
  • To carry out research into appropriate renewable energy, energy efficiency and heating systems and equipment
  • To write reports and provide presentations for consultancy clients
  • Provide engineering drawings and design for clients
  • To participate in site visits
  • To provide specialist guided tours for clients as necessary
  • Occasionally to provide specialist tuition for Day Visits and Cabins groups
  • Other duties as required

General

  • To comply with internal management and monitoring procedures as required by the organisation.
  • Following successful completion of six month probationary period, to participate in the wider organisational management structure, including attending relevant meetings, participating in Recruitment Panels, periodic membership of Overview and various sub-committees.
  • To take part in CAT management including taking part in strategy groups.
  • To keep informed of the day-to-day running of CAT via minutes and other communication channels.
  • To undertake rota duties as agreed by the staff body from time to time.
  • Any other duties as requested by the elected Management Group, Overview.

Person specification

Essential

  • An in depth knowledge of at least one renewable energy technology
  • Knowledge of energy efficiency issues
  • A relevant post graduate qualification (or be working towards one)
  • Reliable, conscientious, self motivated and enthusiastic
  • Able to work on own initiative or as part of team
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills; able to prioritise appropriately and to work to deadlines
  • Computer literate
  • Presentable manner and appearance
  • Ability to explain technical information to others in written and verbal form
  • Excellent communication skills
  • The ability to provide education to students from a wide range of experience and backgrounds.
  • Willingness to undertake training

Desirable

  • Driving licence desirable
  • Teaching experience in Higher Education.
