Position Overview

The Pembina Institute is seeking a talented Senior Consulting Lead with strong leadership skills to join the Calgary office. The purpose of the Consulting Lead’s role is to champion the consulting/collaborative approach in Alberta. The successful candidate will be joining a dynamic group of nationally-recognized professionals who apply their technical acumen, industry knowledge, values and creativity to the Canadian corporate sector's most prominent sustainability challenges. The full-time (40 hours a week) position may require travel and requires occasional work on evenings and weekends.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary rate is competitive for a Consulting Lead in the non-profit sector and will be based on skills, experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.

Business Development (30%)

  • Work with regional leadership and members of the executive group, understand client and Institute priorities and needs and develop/fundraise for projects that offer shared value (“Sales”)
  • Act as the regional champion and coordinator for collaborative engagement with the corporate, government and community sectors
  • Represent the Institute at public events

Project Direction and Management/Mentoring (50%)

  • Act as client liaison, ensuring needs of the clients are met
  • Quality control on consulting deliverables
  • Lead-author for consulting reports and client communications
  • Mentor staff on client relations, project execution/management, deliverables quality assurance, facilitation, presentation etc.

Subject Matter Expertise and Risk Management (20%)

  • Act as an internal subject matter expert
  • Collaborate with internal project and policy teams
  • Act as a ‘traffic cop’ on issues which impose risk to Institute consulting relations or ENGO/wider stakeholder relations, and elevate as necessary

Skills and Qualifications

Candidates must clearly reflect the following skills and experience in their application:

5+ years of relevant professional experience

  • Strong industry experience or understanding, preferably in energy and environment (other relevant areas may include associated government departments; environmental/CSR consulting; academia; international development, government and/or advocacy)
  • Top-notch leadership and talent management skills; ability to manage, mentor, motivate and inspire team members
  • Solid professional networks in energy and environment

Relevant skills may include training in:

  • Oil and gas/oilsands environmental/technical issues
  • Risk assessment and mitigation
  • Economic or technical analysis of environmental issues
  • Greenhouse Gas quantification or Life Cycle Analysis
  • Project Management
  • Facilitation and/or Leadership
  • Advanced user of Microsoft Excel
  • Minimum undergraduate degree in engineering, business and/or sustainability related subject area

Demonstrated commitment to sustainability and social change:

  • This can be through your educational, professional, and volunteer experiences
  • Skilled and articulate oral and written communicator
  • Superior research and writing skills
  • Self-motivated and results-oriented, with drive and initiative
