The Government of Seychelles (GOS), with the assistance of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and funding from the Global Environmental Facility (GEF), is undertaking a project on “Mainstreaming Biodiversity Management into Production Sector Activities”, as well as a project on “Capacity Development for Sustainable Land Management”. The Programme Coordination Unit for GOS/UNDP/GEF projects in Seychelles is seeking a qualified international candidate to take up a full-time, long-term (2-year) position to be jointly funded by both projects, starting from June 2009:
Duties and Responsibilities
The Land Use Planning Coordinator will assist the Ministry of National Development and the Planning Authority, in close and continual consultation with stakeholders, in the development and strengthening of an effective policy and legal framework for land use planning and management, which integrates Biodiversity and Sustainable Land Management principles and priorities. Work carried out under this consultancy will target the national legal framework, national-level policies & plans, local or sector specific policies & plans, and institutional capacity.
Competencies
Practical experience in developing Land Use Policies and Plans, preferably in Small Island Developing States (SIDS);
Experience in legal and regulatory aspects of Land Use Planning and Management;
Knowledge of international standards and best practices concerning Land Use Planning and Management;
Knowledge of Sustainable Land Management and Biodiversity Conservation principles;
Experience with participatory, consultative processes with a variety of stakeholders;
Required Skills and Experience
Advanced University Degree in an area related to Land Use Planning
Fluent written and oral communication in English.
Knowledge of French and Creole an advantage.
