Job overview

Construction Manager, reporting to the MD UK, will be responsible for establishing and leading the construction department and subcontractor network in the UK and building the team’s capability to enable the construction of 10 -35 MW PV projects during 2011 with further growth in the years after.

Your duties and responsibilities

  • Lead a team that implements UK PV projects, safely, in time and on budget
  • Establish and develop a robust approach to safety management for construction activities, including working in accordance with CDM regulations
  • Establish and recruit the construction department in theUKas it develops
  • Implement processes and standards of the department based on the HQ processes
  • Build up the Construction team in theUKto construct between 10-35 MW PV projects during 2011 with growth foreseen in the years after
  • Lead a team of construction personnel and subcontractors across theUKand keep timelines and costs forEPCcontracts as well as cost calculation
  • Responsible for the technical part of theUKstandard cost calculation (CoCa) and its regular update including feedback from completed projects
  • Ensure implementation of system design and construction standards developed by juwiGermany
  • Ensure all construction sites and procedures strictly adhere toHSErules andUKregulations
  • Improve and reduce costs of construction practices. Exchange construction experience and processes with HQ. Document standards and requirements.
  • Conduct technical selection and qualification of UK Subcontractors (either local or international with capacity to work for juwi in theUK) and purchasing negotiations of purchase department local or central

Responsibilities

  • Construction of PV-plants in theUK, both rooftop and ground mounted
  • Implementation of system design standards and optimizations proposed by the central system design and construction team inGermany
  • Resource planning for construction management regardingUKprojects
  • Placing of material orders, quality and quantity control of delivered material and technical input for price negotiations lead by purchasing/supply chain
  • Ensure that plants in theUKare built according to juwi-standards  - adapted to theUKstandards and regulations
  • Ensure seamless technical documentation of PV power plants
  • Delivery of finished projects including handover to Operation and Maintenance
  • Recruitment and training of construction employees i.e. construction personnel.
  • Lead employees as head of department
  • Lead regular appraisal interviews with all team members and to set targets
  • Ensure full compliance withHSEregulations, laws and requirements in theUKand carry out regular safety instructions and audits for the construction team.

Your profile

Skills & attributes required:

  • Preferably degree educated or equivalent with an electrical/mechanical/civil engineering, or construction management background.
  • Good understanding of construction in the built environment
  • Demonstrable track record in safety management within an operational environment
  • Experience of building, developing and managing teams of construction personnel
  • Must have proven project management experience and excellent project management skills.
  • Strong background and experience of managing subcontractors in a construction environment
  • Strong commercial acumen.
  • Strong communication & inter-personal skills.
  • Must be able to work to strict deadlines & budgets.

Experience Desirable in the following:

  • Experience within the renewable energy sector especially solar PV
  • Experience of designing & implementing renewable energy projects highly desirable
  • Experience of working in the renewable energies sector withinUKand knowledge of theUKlegal framework.
  • Familiarity with Solar PV technology
  • Engineering recommendation G83 and G59
  • Data logging
  • Graphic displays and building management systems.
