 POSITION SUMMARY
 The Marketing Resource Center (MRC) Conservation Writer is a member of The Nature Conservancy marketing department and supports Nature Conservancy programs who have partnered with the MRC.  S/he is responsible for writing and editing assigned marketing materials in order to achieve the outcomes identified in approved marketing plans developed for programs served by the MRC and thereby supporting the Nature Conservancy’s three marketing objectives:

*Become the most respected organization among key audiences
*Influence local conservation activities among a broader constituency
*Increase major gifts fundraising to support conservation goals

The materials developed by the Conservation Writer will vary enormously and will require an ability to communicate effectively to a wide variety of audiences, oftentimes requiring study and interaction with conservation staff among others.  In this capacity, s/he will collaborate closely with other MRC staff, creative services staff, web and magazine staff and other groups as necessary. Because of tight deadlines and the need to work collaboratively, a positive attitude and strong commitment to results are essential to success in this position.

This position reports to the MRC Associate Director.
 ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
 Duties:

1. Primary writing responsibility for feature stories, fact sheets, newsletters, brochures, presentations, fundraising materials, web and video production pieces as required by program partners.
2. Secondary responsibility for writing/editing media releases as requested by MRC media staff.
3. Support media staff with message development where needed, and collaborate on media pitches.
4. Ensure content is repurposed for use in other vehicles.
5. Ensure Conservancy and program partners’ messaging is consistently applied to assigned projects. Apply editorial style guidelines and ensures accuracy of materials.
6. Support Sr. Conservation Writers in their work with content leaders through story ideas, writing support, research etc.   May serve as project manager, as assigned.
7. Work with other MRC staff to develop and streamline review/approval and editing/proofreading processes.
8. Work in partnership with staff in partner and non-partner programs, MRCs and other content producers across the Conservancy
9. Participate in networks of writers and content producers across the Conservancy to enhance knowledge and skills.

Requirements, Knowledge and Skills:
• Bachelor’s degree in English, communications, journalism or related fields
• 5-7 years experience in  communications, publications or marketing, with a particularly strong emphasis on writing
• Experience writing for a wide variety of print and electronic mediums
• Ability to write for a variety of audiences, such as donors, partners, etc.
• Experience with message development and knowledge of how to use messages across vehicles.
• Demonstrated command of grammar, punctuation and style.
• Awareness of conservation issues and a general knowledge of fundraising.
• Personal passion for preserving and protecting the natural world with a belief in the mission, principles and values of The Nature Conservancy’s global approach to conservation.
• Some travel required.
 BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
 • Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, or related field and 4 years related experience or equivalent combination.
• Experience writing and editing one or more of the following:  newsletter, magazine, annual report, and web-site articles/stories; donor profiles, presidential acknowledgment letters, campaign brochures, funding proposals, fact sheets, and presentations; or equivalent.
• Experience presenting to diverse audiences including some or all of the following: donors, members, board members, and the public or equivalent.
• Experience coordinating multiple projects or related.
• Experience working with MS Office suite software including MS Word.
