Conservation Volunteer Coordinator - Regina, Saskatchewan

Purpose and General Description:

The Nature Conservancy of Canada’s (NCC) Conservation Volunteers (CV) program engages Canadians of all ages in the conservation of our country's species and natural habitats. It provides a meaningful, hands-on educational experience in ecologically significant natural areas. Volunteers help NCC accomplish its on-the-ground land management goals. The position will also be lead and support NCC staff in GIS mapping and assist in managing NCC’s Land Information System (LIS).

Duties and Responsibilities:

The successful candidate would be responsible for:

  • Organizing the logistics of the CV event;
  • Hosting/leading the event out on the property;
  • Preparing reports, website, social media content following the event;
  • Leading field activities such as biological inventories, property monitoring and reporting;
  • LIS Data Entry Support for Conservation Operations Staff.
  • Lead GIS mapping and database management for NCC’s conservation and fundraising activities;
  • Assist in other duties as required.

Supervision

Direct supervision will be provided by the Manager of Development.

Required Skills and Attributes:

  • Outgoing, with the ability to lead activities with kids, adults, companies, etc.;
  • Completed some or all of a University or College Natural Sciences or GIS Program;
  • Strong understanding of biology, ecology, environmental studies or closely related field; 
  • Experience with ESRI GIS software and NCC’s LIS database;
  • Analytical, and detail orientated, creative, proactive thinker;
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, seek assistance and input as required and to work on interdisciplinary teams;
  • Self motivated, superior time management skills, ability to work to meet deadlines;
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and technical writing skills;
  • Valid Class 5 Drivers Licence, with access to vehicle; and
  • Able to work under adverse climatic conditions.

Terms of Employment

  • This is a 5 month position starting in May with the potential for extension based on available funding;
  • Salary is $16/hour (based on a 5 day, 35 hr work week);
  • You will be required to work many weekends;
  • The position is based in Regina or other suitable location, but will require the ability to travel throughout Saskatchewan. Extended overnight stays maybe required. Travel expenses will be reimbursed.
