Ducks Unlimited Canada (DUC) is seeking a highly motivated student for summer employment in Surrey, British Columbia.

Duties:

Based in Surrey, BC, this term position will provide an excellent opportunity to learn about and work in the field of Conservation (Civil Engineering). The successful applicant will use their education in civil engineering towards the development and management of wetland habitats throughout the Lower Fraser Valley and Vancouver Island Regions.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Management and administration of wetland conservation projects
  • Assisting DUC engineering staff with daily operation of and repairs to water control structures
  • Data entry and other computer work
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of civil engineering survey techniques and GPS technologies
  • Knowledge of design software would be considered an asset
  • Ability to work outdoors and perform manual tasks
  • A first aid certificate and experience with chainsaws, brush cutters and generators would be assets
  • Familiar with the Microsoft Office suite of programs
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and a current driver’s abstract
  • Must be available for work between May 14, 2012 and August 31, 2012

Details:

  • This position is based on funding where the successful candidate must have been a full-time student in the previous academic year and intends to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year
  • Expected term of employment is 15 weeks
  • Salary is $16.00/hr based on a 40-hour week
