The Conservation Practitioner Honduras develops, manages and advances conservation programs, plans and methods for larger-scale ecoregions, particularly Pine-Oak forests and dry forests in Honduras and parts of Nicaragua.  His/her job is related to conservation practice in Pine-Oak Forests, Dry Forests, watershed management and financial mechanisms for conservation. He/she will be in close relations with government agencies (national and municipal level), international cooperation agencies, community based organizations, and other NGOs related to management of natural resources in order to further policy initiatives and other key strategies for conservation. He/she will work under the supervision and technical support of the Honduras Legal Representative, and as such, assists in providing technical leadership and support to MNCA Conservation Programs.

Some specific functions include:

  • Addresses critical threats to natural systems and some individual species in Pine-Oak and Dry Forests.
  • Develops and implements conservation strategies such as sustainable watershed, sustainable productive landscapes, water funds, etc.
  • Fosters cross-site learning conservation community practitioners
  • Employs a full range of protection tools to acquire varying degrees of legal interest in land and implements a variety of strategies to secure public and private support for TNC conservation priorities. 
  • Coordinates community support
  • Coordinates work with conservation partners, and oversees any grant-making (sub-awards) done to such partners.
