The Great Plains Regional Office of Ducks Unlimited, Inc. (DU) is seeking a part-time Conservation Specialist to coordinate special projects within the region.  This 36 hours per week position will work under the direction of the Manager of Conservation Services and become part of a dedicated team of professionals working to increase conservation delivery and awareness in this important landscape. The successful applicant will work with a team of biologists, engineers, policy professionals, fundraisers, communications professionals, and accountants to help deliver conservation projects within the Great Plains Region.

Qualifications:  Entry level position that focuses on public policy analysis, communications, and administrative support for conservation work.  Minimum requirements are a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience with appropriate training and knowledge of legislative and administrative processes at the state and/or federal level.  Under supervision, this position will provide administrative assistance to multiple specialties within the Great Plains Region as well as reviewing existing and proposed public policies.

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Work with a variety of staff  including biologists, engineers, scientists, communication professionals, fundraisers, managers and directors on special projects in the Great Plains Region that advance conservation.

  • Assist policy specialists in tracking legislation of concern in the seven state region as well as at the federal level.

  • Assist conservation staff in grant proposals as well as writing and editing close-out reports.  

  • Work with science team to conduct research, field assistance and compilation of findings.

  • Represent DU at wetland conservation venues and assist with a variety of fundraising activities, including working with Development staff, Grassroots staff, and Volunteers as needed.

  • Assist communications staff in compiling stories and reports about accomplishments of DU and general conservation topics, especially in the Great Plains Region.

  • Work with regional project coordinators on data entry and vendor file maintenance.

  • Provide administrative assistance to regional staff as needed.
