Working as part of a busy and dynamic team, this is an exciting opportunity to work in one of the fastest growing international wildlife charities, with a recognised and high profile media presence. Born Free is dedicated to stop animal suffering and to protect animals in the wild; it has a wide portfolio of projects dealing with some of the worlds most endangered species.

We are looking for a motivated individual who has some relevant experience in delivering support to conservation programmes, a good understanding of the current and emerging threats to wildlife worldwide, and is familiar with ecological and social science tools to address conservation problems. The successful candidate will be a reliable and enthusiastic team player with some management and people skills, and the ability to support the Conservation Team to deliver a well-managed portfolio of field conservation projects world-wide.

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • To provide day-to-day support to the Head of Conservation and the Conservation Team on all matters relevant to project management, report writing, communication with project leaders and media opportunities;
  • To support the Marketing & Fundraising Department with relevant content from Born Free’s field conservation project portfolio for social media and outreach;
  • To write articles and features on Born Free’s conservation work;
  • To assist the Conservation Team with grant applications;
  • To provide logistical support to the conservation team to facilitate international travel;
  • To help administer the Conservation Working Group by preparing the agenda and drafting the minutes;
  • To respond to relevant queries of supporters and members of the public, as required;
  • To compile project ‘wishlists’ for fundraising in consultation with project leaders;
  • To communicate Born Free’s animal welfare and wildlife conservation priorities, positions and policies when engaging with project leaders and partners;
  • To promote Born Free’s mission, objectives, and Compassionate Conservation philosophy.

Experience:

  • Relevant graduate or post graduate degree (this is a role that would suit a Masters graduate) or equivalent experience;
  • Some international field conservation experience is preferable;
  • Good project management and organisational skills;
  • Good interpersonal and presentational skills;
  • Good writing skills and experience in writing animal welfare and conservation stories for a range of outlets, including but not restricted to social media;
  • Ability to undertake and support research, whether library and online research or data analysis;
  • Ability to prioritise work and manage time and projects effectively;
  • Proficiency in GIS and R software is preferable;

This is a role with a minimum salary of £23,000 (dependent on qualifications and experience) and 20 days holiday per annum. This position full-time with some international travel possible. Applicants must be UK residents or be legally permitted to work in the UK; Born Free is an equal opportunities employer.
