Conservation Projects Coordinator - Fredericton, NB

Purpose and General Description:

The Conservation Projects Coordinator assumes the lead role in assisting the Associate Regional Vice President (ARVP) in overseeing and supporting the effective and efficient delivery of Science, Securement and Stewardship programming.  They are responsible for the review, editing and recommendation for approval (by ARVP) of all Conservation Project summaries, and other departmental documents.  They have overall responsibility for management of the Land Information System.  This position includes field work and associated report preparation, and also has responsibility for some of the departments fundraising deliverables. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Acts as  liaison with  National Office for all information required by the National Land Information Coordinator and Finance staff , including securement validation reports, schedules of project funds, FE code creation through PND system, follow-up documentation for securement projects and all other related information
  • Takes the lead in the timely production and delivery of Conservation Department  board materials,  including project approvals and fundraising updates
  • Reviews and assesses property prospects and related documentation including evaluation and internal processing forms such as Conservation Project Summaries, property closing forms, GST and HST reports, land donation forms, and other required supporting documentation
  • Takes the lead in the tracking of multiple dedicated funding sources in the region  to ensure accurate information is readily available
  • Reviews property project budgets, submitted through Atlantic’s Master Budget Template and recommends for approval by ARVP and Controller
  • Helps raise funds for the Conservation Department by researching, writing and submitting fundraising proposals.  Leads with some funding sources and assists with others. 
  • Plays an important role in annual and final report writing required under several specific funding sources
  • Manages post-closing administration with respect to property taxes for four Atlantic provinces, which includes liaison with provincial and municipal government departments on payments as well as application for property tax exemptions
  • Manages the Land Information System (LIS) from a regional perspective, with overall responsibility for data population and record keeping by securement staff, technical support and training, to maintain quality assurance standards. Takes the lead with creating and implementing best practices or system protocols within the regional

Required Skills and Attributes:

This posting is targeted to individuals possessing the following skills:

  • Graduate with a biology, forestry, or environmental science degree or equivalent;
  • A demonstrated awareness of conservation issues in Atlantic Canada
  • Project budget tracking experience and/or education an asset
  • Competence in both official languages an asset
  • Exemplary organization, planning, communication (written and oral), and project coordination skills
  • Highly analytical; exceptional writing and proofing skills; attention to detail
  • Ability to critically review and analyze conservation projects representing Canada’ diversity of ecosystems
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including experience and proven results in working tactfully and persuasively with colleagues
  • Self motivated; ability to maintain a dynamic work plan and meet fixed deadlines
  • Ability to assess scientific merit of conservation and species documentation related to conservation planning
  • Technical knowledge related to natural area conservation
  • Flexibility in approach – the ability to work independently and as part of a team demonstrated drive and ability to listen and learn from colleagues and partners
  • A strong commitment to the cause and mission of the Nature Conservancy of Canada
