The Bahamas National Trust is seeking to hire a Conservation Planner. The Position is to help advance the objectives of the project “Realizing The 2020 Goal: Advancing the Expansion and Effective Management of the Marine Protected Areas System in The Bahamas”.
Responsibilities: The planner will be responsible for preparing proposals for new National Parks and Protected Areas and for the development of management plans. This will include the preparation, development, revision and implementation of management planning documents and their Bylaws, for existing and new National Parks. The planner will lead focus group and stakeholder meetings and conduct surveys to gather information to inform the park planning process. The planner will work with experts, both locally and internationally, to establish resource management goals and develop tools for measuring the effectiveness of Park management efforts. The planner will work with The Bahamas Government, local stakeholders and partner agencies to enlist their support for the management of new and existing national parks.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in the Earth Sciences or Social Sciences field is required;
- Minimum of two (2) years experience in project management;
- Must have experience in stakeholder engagement for social and environmental issues;
- Full computer literacy (GIS background/skills are a plus);
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
- Knowledgeable about The Bahamian natural environment;
- Excellent organizational and time management skills;
- Excellent oral, written and presentation skills;
- Able to work efficiently on one’s own or as part of a team;
- Training or experience in communications and strategic planning is an added bonus;and
- Ability to travel nationally and internationally
