Description

The Bumblebee Conservation Trust (BBCT) is looking for a full-time Conservation Officer to deliver conservation activities in Devon and the South West. Your primary role will be to deliver the West Country Buzz project. You will also support the development and delivery of wider BBCT conservation work in South West England.

West Country Buzz is a partnership project with Natural England that aims to:

  • Support bumblebees and wild pollinators in Devon by encouraging farmers to safeguard, restore and create valuable bumblebee habitats on their land and increasing uptake of the Wild Pollinator and Farm Wildlife Package being offered under the new Countryside Stewardship Scheme.
  • Raise awareness of the importance of bumblebees and the problems they face, inspiring individual action.
  • Gather evidence on bumblebee distribution and abundance in Devon

You will be self-motivated and enthusiastic, with strong communication skills, experience of delivering talks and events, and working with volunteers. You will have direct experience of working with farmers and a good understanding of pastoral, arable and mixed farming systems, along with knowledge of wild pollinators and the habitats which support them. Please refer to the job description and person specification for more details of the role.

This is a full-time position offered on a fixed term contract until March 2017. The position may be extended until March 2018, subject to funding. This position is home-based, although hot-desk options can be discussed.

The closing date is 12 pm Monday 25 July 2016.
