Description

Falklands Conservation (FC) is a membership-based organisation and registered charity that takes action to protect the fauna and flora of the Falkland Islands. Our key activities include scientific research, environmental education, wildlife monitoring, practical conservation projects, land management activities, and providing advice to government to sustain and protect the Falklands’ environment.

This is a full-time post based in the Falkland Islands, at a salary of £25,000-28,000 dependent on experience. Its length depends upon satisfactory completion of a six-month probationary period, and subject to renewal of work permits by the Falkland Islands Customs and Immigration Department at two-yearly intervals.

The Conservation Officer’s role is to ensure that Falklands Conservation remains an organisation highly regarded for its research, monitoring and conservation of the wildlife of the islands. He/she will supervise and develop our existing programmes and instigate new projects; such projects will include those that fill priority gaps in biodiversity knowledge and/or ensure the instigation of action plans. Key roles include the coordination of volunteer input and the involvement of a wide range of national and international collaborators.

The ideal candidate would have a PhD (or similar qualification) and 3+ years' relevant professional experience in an environmental field, preferably including project management, data management, all-round communication skills, experience of writing scientific publications and reports, and successfully applying for grants.
