CONTEXT
Created in 2001, Noé is a non-profit general interest association whose mission is to safeguard biodiversity, for the well-being of all living beings, and in particular of humanity. To achieve this, Noé implements, in France and internationally, programs for the conservation of threatened species, the management of protected natural areas, the restoration of ordinary biodiversity and natural environments, and the reconnection of humans. to Nature and support for economic activities and civil society organizations favorable to biodiversity. To find out more: https://noe.org/ The Pôle Parcs de Noé (https://parcsdenoe.org) specifically aims to contribute to the sustainable management of protected areas in Africa through a management model, involving responsibility and accountability, for the safeguarding of biodiversity and natural heritage, security and community development.

Noé works in Congo in the Conkouati-Douli National Park (PNCD). The Government of Congo, represented by the Ministry of Forest Economy, and Noé signed in April 2021 a Partnership Agreement for the management of the Conkouati-Douli National Park, one of the 5 national parks of the Republic of Congo. Located in the southwest of the country, on the border with Gabon, the PNCD is of major importance due to its unique diversity of ecosystems, habitats, fauna and flora, combining both the unique richness of equatorial forests and that of the waters of the Gulf of Guinea. The National Park recently saw its marine part extended by 2906 km2, bringing the surface area of the Park from 5050 to 7956 km2.
In order to develop and implement a team and a strategic ecological research and monitoring program, Noé is recruiting a Conservation Manager. He/she will not only be responsible for the forestry aspect but also the marine aspect.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Under the responsibility of the director of the Park Management Unit (UGP), your missions will be to develop and implement the research and monitoring strategy of the Park, by structuring and supervising dedicated teams and ensuring the coordination of technical partnerships.

YOUR MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
• Structure and develop the Biodiversity Conservation Department in order to achieve long-term conservation results: recruitment, supervision, capacity building, management of standards and protocols, budgetary and technical monitoring;
• Develop and coordinate the implementation of the conservation, research and monitoring strategy, as well as associated protocols: concerted development of the strategy, strategic planning, coordination of implementation, action plans and monitoring of the strategy.
• Develop research and conservation projects and collaborate with key partners to implement them: development of research projects, restoration actions, strategic partnerships, restitution/popularization of results.
• Supervise the implementation of ecological monitoring activities: forest and marine inventories, monitoring of GPS collar data, habitat monitoring, remote sensing, climate monitoring, camera traps.
REQUIRED PROFILE
• A university degree at master's or doctoral level in nature conservation, forestry sciences, ecological engineering, conservation. A specialized engineer or field researcher profile with a strong technical/operational component will be preferred
• Strong proven experience in research and conservation, ideally in Central Africa
• Strong team and project management skills desired
• Adaptability to changing environments and isolated contexts
• Administrative and IT skills
• Diplomacy and ability to establish good relationships
• Knowledge of data management and GIS
• Knowledge of the marine domain would be a plus
• French: read, write, speak (ability to communicate in the field and write documents)
• English: read, write, speak (ability to communicate in a scientific environment and write scientific documents)
• Knowledge of a local language (e.g. Lingala) is an added value

WHAT WE OFFER
Contract: 18-month renewable fixed term contract
Envisioned taking up office: As soon as possible.
Location: Park Headquarters of the Conkouati-Douli National Park (and Pointe Noire).
Salary: according to experience and Noé salary grid
Paid leave: 21 calendar days every 100 days in the field
Insurance covered by Noé: health coverage, welfare and repatriation
