An exciting opportunity is available to work with Ducks Unlimited, the leader in wetlands conservation. The conservation intern position will be located in the GLARO located in Ann Arbor, MI. This position will work closely with staff responsible for many aspects of habitat conservation across the 21-state region and will assist in outreach, development of communications products, landowner and public education, grant administration, and literature research and analysis. This is an excellent opportunity for an aspiring resource professional to gain experience with DU’s waterfowl and wetland conservation programs and to become knowledgeable about the administrative side of habitat and wildlife conservation.   

Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • Support biologists and other staff in delivering habitat conservation programs. 
  • Assist in grant proposal development, writing and reporting.
  • Serve as a liaison with private landowners, state and federal agencies, and other partner organizations.
  • Assist with preparation and maintenance of internal documents relative to DU’s land protection program.
  • Support public policy and communications efforts.
  • Conduct and assist in public presentations, outreach efforts, and supporter events.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Applicants must have, at minimum, a Bachelor’s degree in wildlife or wetland related field; an advanced degree is preferred. Relevant experience in waterfowl or wetland ecology or habitat restoration/protection is helpful.   Successful applicant will be highly motivated, have strong, demonstrated oral and written communications and organizational skills, have the ability to work both independently and as a team member, have excellent computer skills, and have knowledge of waterfowl, wetlands, and wildlife habitat conservation issues.   Applicants may be asked to travel, sometimes for extended periods, and work in physically-demanding settings and in all weather conditions.

Salary: This is a 12-month position with a stipend of $1,800 per month.  Housing is not included with this position.
