Description

This is an excellent training opportunity for a keen livestock enthusiast to gain valuable knowledge and hands-on experience in conservation grazing and farming.

Surrey Wildlife Trust is one of 46 Wildlife Trusts across the UK, a grassroots movement working to protect and connect at least 30 per cent of land and sea for nature's recovery by 2030. ‘Our vision for a wilder Surrey is a future with abundant wildlife and nature recovery networks rich in biodiversity.’

We manage our estate of 8,000ha for conservation, education and biodiversity and provide safe public access to its land holding.

This trainee placement will develop knowledge and hands-on experience in delivering conservation grazing across a wide range of habitats including heathland, chalk grassland, river meadows and traditional farmland.

Some flexibility exists around the role, dependent on candidates’ skills and availability; we will offer a selection of external training covering First Aid, Trailer driving, 4x4 Off Road in addition to internal training, including cattle welfare, habitat management and species ID.

A relevant qualification is desired and you must have a keen interest in livestock with some previous practical livestock experience; also essential are good communication skills, computer ability, a desire to work within the environmental sector, a good level of physical fitness and a full driving licence.

If you are able to fulfil the criteria outlined on the job profile, please complete an application form and send it to jo.saunders@surreywt.org.uk asap or no later than 5pm 21st May 2021. Interviews will be held the following week or sooner if an appropriate candidate applies early. The job profile and application form are available on our website www.surreywildlifetrust.org.

Pond Farm, our primary base on Wisley Common, is not readily accessible via public transport so the ability to drive and access to a vehicle is essential although suitable SWT work vehicles will be available.
