The Conservation Forester will oversee forest management and restoration for the Nassawango Creek preserve, and land management on the Eastern Shore of Maryland.  He or she will develop, manage, and advance forestry operations in the Nassawango Creek project area and will provide technical leadership and support to the Maryland/DC Operating Unit.  The Forester will take the lead on implementing and updating the Nassawango Sustainable Forest Management Plan, and maintaining Nassawango’s FSC certification status.

The Forester will establish strong relationships with key private and public forestry service providers.  This position will assist in the preparation, review and approval of forest management and pre-harvest plans in accordance with FSC standards.  Further, the Forester will assist in the management of Conservancy-owned forests by working with contractors to conduct forest management and restoration operations.  S/he will negotiate contracts and leases for the Conservancy.
S/he will be responsible for planning and implementation of stewardship activities on Conservancy land through staff management, volunteer involvement, coordinated implementation, and partner-based conservation.  The position will provide oversight and asset management to all legal interests, including fee-owned property and conservation easements, and be the primary lead on all sites on Maryland’s Eastern Shore.  The Forester may supervise some full-time and seasonal stewardship staff, contractors, and volunteers.
