The Nature’s Valley Trust (NVT) is a small community driven NPO working at the cutting edge of integrated conservation in South Africa. We operate in four main arenas, namely Conservation, Education, Community and Research. We take a holistic view of people and the environment, and use our four programs to help shape how people live, how they view the world around them, and how they as individuals can contribute to conserving the natural world. Nestled in the magnificent Garden Route, and situated in world renowned Nature’s Valley, we are a passionate group of conservationists that aim to make a practical difference with the work we do. NVT, with the support of some of our partners, invites young professionals to apply for a structured 2-year contract for the position of Conservation Education Officer. This position is also structured as a mentoring opportunity and to support the orientation, growth and development of young conservation professionals. The successful candidate will work closely with NVT’s Conservation Education Director to facilitate our Environmental Education (EE) and Community Outreach (CO) programmes and projects. NVT has award winning participatory EE & CO programs and has built credible curriculum linked education programs over the last 15 years. The Conservation Education Officer will focus on the following: ? Facilitate the national Adopt-A-Beach and Adopt-A-River programs with 2 local schools ? Facilitate NVT’s Eco-Schools program with local schools ? Conceptualise and establish education programs in response to the contextualised socialecological issues and risks in the area, with an emphasis on coastal systems ? Organise, plan and facilitate NVT’s holiday programs in April and December ? Organise, plan and facilitate NVT’s CO programs with local communities ? Assist with the stakeholder training and education program ? Assist with resource development & revision, fundraising and administrative duties The following skills will be beneficial for the position: ? Honours / Master’s Degree in Environmental Education, Conservation Ecology or related field or Master’s Degree in teaching ? Experience in environmental education ? Excellent writing and computer skills ? Fluent in both Afrikaans and English ? Good planning, co-ordination and facilitation skills ? Good networking and people skills The successful candidate will operate from the office in Nature’s Valley and will need their own transport (any travel done on behalf of NVT will be compensated for). Private transport and accommodation are not included in the position.
