Position Summary: The Conservation Coordinator is directly responsible for supervising the day to day activities and performance of corps members and for managing all aspects of program conservation projects. This position is to assure that conservation service work meets partner and SCA standards and expectations, and to provide supervision and mentorship for conservation service teams.

Essential Functions:

  • Oversee the conservation service activity of the program
  • Solicit, select and schedule conservation projects, coordinating with agency partners to ensure they meet partner needs and the stated objectives of the program
  • Build, maintain, and manage conservation program tools and equipment
  • Assist the Program Director, in recruiting, interviewing and selecting corps members
  • Supervise day to day activities and performance of members, providing support, counsel, and advice
  • Monitor the logging of member service hours
  • Oversee, facilitate and evaluate corps member goal setting and achievement
  • Develop and maintain systems of accountability between program staff, members and external program partners
  • Act as a liaison between agency coordinators and corps members
  • Plan and facilitate group building activities designed to encourage the development and maintenance of a healthy residential community including organizing and participating in weekly community meetings
  • Provide field-based supervision and technical and logistical support
  • Oversee the development, implementation, logistics and evaluation of member training including developing and conducting workshops and training sessions for members
  • Oversee the design and implementation of conservation workskills training programs
  • Manage and document incidents according to SCA standards
  • Review and compile program and service site Emergency Response Plans
  • Evaluate corps members and service projects by visiting field sites and analyzing Program Partners&rsquo: reports and participant evaluations
  • Provide reports, data and information to the Program Director to assist him/her in compiling SCA Quarterly and Annual Reports and AmeriCorps reports

Experience and Skills:

Qualifications:

  • BA/BS in Environmental Education/Science/related field or four years of related field experience
  • Two years of supervisory experience in an outdoor/conservation service program
  • In depth experience of trail maintenance and construction techniques and all associated tools. Chainsaw and Grip-hoist experience strongly desired.
  • Valid driver’s license and MVR that meets SCA standards
  • Current Wilderness First Responder/ CPR certification
  • Criminal background check that meets SCA standards required
  • Community organizing skills and strong capacity to work in a team
  • Proven supervisory, organizational, and program development skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including effective computer and internet skills
  • Experience with service-learning methodologies preferred
  • Experience living and working in a residential setting preferred
