The Conservation Coordinator will coordinate implementation of the Healthy Trees, Healthy NYC program and will assist with the implementation of the Healthy Trees, Healthy Cities program in other pilot cities.  The position will provide support and project management to advance the Forest Health Program’s communication and outreach goals.   Duties will include conducting outreach, coordinating volunteers, collecting, assembling, and analyzing various types of data and information, and assisting in the production of reports, documents, outreach materials, presentations, and other program work products. 

Primary responsibility will be to provide program support to the Healthy Trees, Healthy Cities Initiative which will include:

  • Healthy Trees, Healthy NYC:  Implement key aspects of the Conservancy’s Healthy Trees, Healthy NYC program in collaboration with the New York Chapter’s Urban Conservation program.  Staff will be the primary lead for implementing this program in NYC and will work closely with the Forest Health and LEAF teams and NYC local partners and agencies to develop and implement key approaches in NYC. 
  • Healthy Trees, Healthy Cities Tools and Trainings:  The Conservancy is developing information and tools to improve tree stewardship and monitoring the health of existing trees in several pilot cities.  Assist in preparation and distribution of public outreach materials (e.g., fact sheets, videos, online materials, identification tools, pest detection and tree health monitoring phone applications) to aid in the identification and reporting of known tree pests and the monitoring of the health of existing urban forests. Assist staff in the development of specific training tools and conducting trainings for partners.  Work with existing agencies and non-profits to incorporate this information into their training and outreach.  Attend tree planting and stewardship training provided by partner organizations in NYC.  Conduct in person trainings for volunteers, partners, and general public.
  • Tree Planting and Stewardship:  Create an annual calendar of tree planting, stewardship, and community engagement events for the pilot cities and take responsibility for the planning, coordination, and implementation of these events and actions.  Coordinate the logistics of these events with partners, promote events to TNC members, coordinate volunteers, and provide support at these events.  Develop supporting educational and outreach materials. 
  • Community Outreach:  Assist Conservancy staff in preparing a community engagement plan to target key neighborhoods, TNC members and supporters, and other key audiences. Conduct outreach to targeted audiences (LEAF schools, local organizations, TNC members, community groups, and community residents) to raise awareness and engage them in Healthy Trees, Healthy Cities actions (tree planting, tree stewardship and tree health monitoring).   Participate in the planning and implementation of several community events.  Coordination and supervision of interns and LEAF students involved in programmatic actions. 
  • Healthy Trees, Healthy Cities Action Plan:  Assist in the preparation of a multi-year action plan for the Healthy Tree, Healthy Cities Initiative in partnership with Conservancy staff, local steering committee, and partners.
  • Administration: Serves as liaison for multiple contractors involved in creating outreach and marketing materials.  Provide some administrative support (grants, contracts, and payments).  Assist with the logging of USFS match hours for TNC cooperative agreements from participants and volunteers.  Assist with research, information gathering, and overall program development and implementation as needed.
