Position Summary

Trout Unlimited is seeking to fill a Conservation Assistant position, to provide administrative, and accounting services for TU's Eastern Home River Initiatives. The position will be based in Thomas, West Virginia and will be responsible for the day to day operations of the Thomas WV office, which includes but is not limited to accounting, office coordination, scheduling and bookkeeping. The position supports TU's eastern Home River Initiative staff in 5 remote offices. The position will be guided by TU's Financial Operations, TU Human Resources, and will interact with partnering agencies and organizations as well as have occasional contact with landowners. The position will report to the Director for Eastern Home River Initiatives. Salary is commensurate with experience.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide accounting support by running reports, preparing invoices and statements, reviewing expense documents for correctness, entering costs and timesheets, and preparing expense and revenue reports on a timely basis.
  • Provide personnel support by maintaining records, gathering information, preparing confidential messages to staff regarding time counts, time off, safety training requirements, and benefit coordination.
  • Support conservation activities of the Eastern Home River programs by scheduling meetings and conference calls, retaining documents, maintaining and coordinating training/workshop events, coordinating materials and equipment delivery and off-loading, and assisting with TU Outreach and Education event planning.
  • Support conservation planning efforts by using planning software;
  • Train staff on use of TU's Self-Service Portal and other administrative support software.
  • Provide customer support services for private landowners and partnering organizations.
  • Communicate with project leads, technical support personnel, and administrative staff to ensure timely and efficient conservation operations, high quality customer service, and responses to partner and funder requests;
  • Perform all work safely and ensure safe operations in every aspect;
  • Develop invoices, reports and cost estimates for project work;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

  • A Bachelors degree in a field related to business administration, accounting, personnel management, office operations, or related field; or 5 or more years' experience working in a professional office environment.
  • Strong written and oral communications.
  • Strong organizational skills and time management skills.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications: MS Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook; Familiarity with Microsoft Access a plus.
  • Experience working in a grant/contract management setting is preferred;
  • Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision.
  • Able to multi-task and work in a faced paced environment.
  • A passion for trout streams and their watersheds is preferred.
