The Center for Biological Diversity is hiring a Conservation Advocate to work for the protection of the Delmarva Peninsula Fox Squirrel — a federally endangered species that is threatened by logging, urban sprawl, and rising sea levels related to climate change. The position will involve closely tracking logging and development projects in fox squirrel habitat on the Delmarva Peninsula in eastern Maryland and developing political and legal strategies for stopping or altering these projects and advocating for landscape-level protections for the squirrel. This will require a dynamic individual with a background in advocacy, law, and biology. Main duties: - Develop detailed knowledge of the status of and threats to the Delmarva Peninsula fox squirrel
- Track logging and development projects in squirrel habitat by reviewing documents and attending community meetings
- Advocate for landscape-level protections for the squirrel
- Develop legal strategies to obtain greater protection for squirrel habitat
Essential qualities, qualifications, and skills: - Advanced degree in either wildlife biology or law highly desirable
- At least two years advocacy experience
- Knowledge of the Endangered Species Act and other environmental laws
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
- Dynamic and assertive personality
Salary is commensurate with experience.
