Job Description:  The Conservation Advocate will assist in advancing the conservation agenda of NJ
Audubon (NJA) with the media, Legislature and Administration, local government and with public. 
General responsibilities include communications with the media and public and advocacy before the
Legislature and Administration. The position will require extensive work with other environmental
organizations. The Advocate will also work on related policy projects and administrative support as
necessary.

Major Responsibilities:
* Directing and executing media events and coverage pertaining to NJA conservation agenda in

coordination with the Director of Government Relations;
* Maintaining web content and updating with articles and news;
* Writing articles on Advocacy and Government Relations activities;
* Preparing testimony and written comments on pending legislation before the State Legislature
in coordination with the Director of Government Relations;
* Educating members of the Legislature and their staff on NJAS issues including existing and
needed legislation;
* Developing and implementing strategies to achieve both NJAS and environmental coalition's
legislative goals in coordination with the Director of Government Relations;
* Engaging in grassroots outreach and organizing in coordination with the Director  of
Government Relations as needed to support the NJAS conservation agenda;
* Working with environmental and other stakeholders including local officials to achieve the
above;
* Representing NJAS in meetings and before various organizations as necessary;
* Participating in fundraising efforts;
* Performing some administrative functions;
* Participating in grant applications and reporting:
* Preparing necessary reports for the public, membership, Board, President and Vice President
for Conservation and Stewardship;
* Speaking at public forums, meetings and events  on various conservation topics;
* Supervising NJAS staff and interns as needed;
* Performing other related duties as assigned.

 Qualifications/knowledge/skills:
* Four year degree or equivalent work experience.
* Excellent written and oral communication skills, project management skills, and knowledge of
environmental and conservation issues required.
* Excellent interpersonal skills.
* Organized, a self-starter and be able to work independently in the execution of his or her
responsibilities while collaborating with other organizations in various coalitions.
* Media, web, legislative and grassroots advocacy and grant writing experience desired.
* Flexibility to work limited nights and weekends as needed.
* Must have a valid driver's license and must be able to operate a motor vehicle in NJ.

Starting Date: Immediate
Salary:  Competitive and commensurate with experience.
