Congo Basin International Research Coordinator

Greenpeace Africa is currently seeking for a Congo Basin International Research Coordinator. The purpose of the job is to participate in the planning and execution of campaign project work in order to achieve the objectives of Greenpeace, with a focus on promoting forest protection in the Congo Basin. The specific role of this position covers international planning and coordination of research, information analysis, team management and contributing to published materials. The successful candidate must be able to perform these duties but not limited to the following:
Job Specification
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the Africa Forest Project’s campaign strategies in relation to forest protection in the Congo Basin.
  • Coordinate specific campaign research work. This will include a thorough assessment of information needs, development of research strategies, directing internal research staff, contracting external consultants, data analysis, preparation of research reports, as well as contributing to and verification of Greenpeace publications. 
  • Monitoring external developments to inform the campaign team about future campaign opportunities or risks that the organization may face. 
  • Ensure regular communications and reporting with the project Leader, as well as with GPAf, GPI and other NRO’s
  • substantive briefings and updates to inform colleagues on research outcomes and provide recommendations for the campaign
  • Maintain an active internal network with GPI and NROs 
  • Maintain and expand actively a network of institutional and individual informants (in close collaboration with the team). Develop, build alliances, and maintain good relationships with various stakeholders, in particular with regards to information acquisition.
  • Assume any other responsibility appropriate to the role, as directed by the Project Leader.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Minimum Masters Academic qualification in sciences or business 
  • 5 years’ experience in a similar position.  
  • Fluency in communicating in both English and French
  • Proven deep knowledge and experience of how science, economics, business and media objectives are integrated into effective campaign strategies 
  • Proven commitment to environmental/peace issues and non-violent campaigning strategies 
  • Highly developed ability to problem solve, utilising multiple analytical techniques within a focused results orientation. 
  • Highly developed proficiency in database, spreadsheet, PowerPoint and information presentation; 
  • Experience in the NGO sector will be an added advantage. 

Personal Competencies

  • Excellent Interpersonal and communication skill. 
  • Must be initiative highly motivated / enthusiastic/ energetic.     
  • Good planning and organising skill.
  • Fluency in English, French will be an added advantage.
  • Ability and willingness to travel frequently
