Forest of Mercia CIC is part of the National Community Forest Partnership and has a long track record of delivering successful environmental projects in Staffordshire and the West Midlands.

We are one of fifteen Community Forests that are delivering part of a major national tree planting programme. We are now looking for a Community Woodlands Officer to join our team who is motivated and committed to improving the environment in the local area and looking for a fantastic opportunity to help reduce the impact of climate change.

As Community Woodlands Officer, you will be working with the Forest team to identify partners for tree planting then creating, training and delivering tree planting schemes of all sizes to these varied partners. Partners may include private or public sector landowners, schools, groups and individuals.

Another key responsibility for the role will be mapping sites on GIS and submitting them to the Forestry Commission for the public register as well as checking for Environmental Impact and risk assessments.

Some other key requirements of the role include management of a variety of current and newly located sites, developing long term management plans as required and the management and supervising the Trees for Climate grant scheme conditions are being kept to and administer the issue of grant offers, monitor site development and report on this.

To be considered for the role, you must hold a relevant degree, or equivalent experience, in tree planting and forestry, alongside experience of project management on grant funded roles, including reporting and managing project funding. GIS mapping systems, especially for the creation of shapefiles and similar data sets is also a must.

Experience of working with a wide variety of groups and individuals to find and develop tree planting schemes of all sizes is also an essential requirement of the role which includes holding good written and verbal communication skills.

The role is based within the Forest of Mercia, Essington with travel required across South Staffordshire and the West Midlands. A clean full driving licence and access to a vehicle is therefore required by the post holder to carry out the role.
