Description

The Alliance is seeking an unpaid intern for the summer for new research for our community conservation initiative.  This is a program of the Alliance that seeks to broaden and deepen support for private land conservation across America. One of our strategies is to reach out to “unlikely suspects,” or groups that land trusts don’t usually work with, to explore how land conservation is connected to and furthers their mission.  These case studies will be widely disseminated in a variety of media to promote the idea among land trusts.

We are seeking tight, compelling, stories of groups that are ethnically, culturally, or regionally diverse. Some examples include religious, Native American, grade school, high school, urban garden and Hispanic groups. The selected intern will research these different groups and write brief case studies documenting how land trusts and other conservation groups have had success in collaborating with them to further both organizations’ missions.  We have a substantial list of examples that need follow-up, including interviews with group representatives; the intern will be free to seek other leads on organizations of interest as well.

Overview

The Land Trust Alliance is a national conservation organization whose mission is to save the places people love by strengthening land conservation throughout America. The Alliance works with Congress to pass tax incentives and funding that help landowners to choose conservation over development.  The Alliance serves as a university for land conservation that trains the people who do the work to conserve cherished farms, forests, parks and trails. It strengthens community-based land trusts by providing workshops, online learning, research, standards, and accreditation services. The Alliance’s conservation defense program helps land trusts ensure that conserved land stays protected forever. The Alliance works with the media to promote land conservation and engage more Americans in saving our most treasured places.

The intern will be provided working space at our Washington, DC office, or they may choose to work from home. The intern reports to the director of communications.
