Earthjustice is at the forefront of a national fight to establish the first ever federal regulations for coal ash disposal. Heavy lobbying from the power and coal industries has not only delayed these long overdue protections, it has also created legislative attempts to disable the EPA’s efforts to move forward with their protective standards. Communities across the country are at risk, and hundreds of local groups are fighting to clean up their drinking water supplies and protect themselves against the toxic coal ash menace. Earthjustice is seeking an experienced organizer with strong credentials and experience working with small, local community groups to act as a Community Partnerships Manager in order to harness the energy present in many local battles and use it most effectively to hold the EPA and Congress to account. We are seeking someone who has established relationships with local community, Native, environmental justice, health and faith-based groups. The most compelling argument for strong, federally enforceable safeguards against coal ash comes from the stories of local communities forced to bear this burden. The Community Partnerships Manager will play a significant role in identifying these communities, coordinating our national efforts with their local efforts, and bringing their stories to a national stage. This position is based in Washington, D.C. and reports directly to the Communications Campaign Director. |
